Power Backup System and Uninterruptible Power Supplies to protect Network Attached Storage (NAS) Servers
Synology DSM supports the following three types of UPS devices: Local, Network, and SNMP UPS.
Local UPS: This refers to UPS devices that are connected to the DiskStation via USB cable.
Network UPS: If there are two DiskStations using a UPS device with a single USB port, then only one DiskStation can obtain information regarding the status of the UPS device. In this case, one DiskStation can act as a "Network UPS server" and connect to the UPS device via USB or network (depending on the device). The network UPS server obtains UPS information and relays it to the other "client" DiskStation.
SNMP UPS: All UPS devices or network management cards which support SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) are supported by Synology products running DSM 4.2 or later.
